made a template purely for fun i think i’m developing some kind of Problem

i love this so much i know it says it doesnt scroll but if you write more text would they “stack” kinda like this

its exactly what i was thinking for my collection site i just didnt feel like learning how to execute it lol

no, but you can make the cards as long as you want, and making them scrollable is so incredibly easy that i just decided to add in the ability to do it in the css. i might as well!

the element for the cards [grid-item] has this

if you remove the two lines with the /* and */, leaving behind the overflow-y: auto, then all of the cards will be able to scroll like this automatically if the text overflows :)

I JUST LEARNED A NEW HTML THING

OK SO YOU CAN DEFINITELY MAKE THEM DO THE STACKING THING YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT!!

all you have to do is change “height: 350px” to “min-height: 350px”

this’ll change it so that if the text gets longer, so will the box

only thing is, i dont know how to make the boxes below it meet up with the rest of them… so it’s kinda a bust for the time being. but i’m sure someone smarter than me can figure that out and i’ll eventually add it into the code. :)

i figured it out and it didnt even take that long

i went to the scripts [javascript] portion of the code near the bottom, and changed the layout from fitrow to masonry

but instead of going all over that, i’m tired, so i just made a masonry version to go alongside the normal one, if you’d rather have this over static rectangles or scrolling

the best thing about learning how to do web coding is over time there’s more and more ideas you have that you’re realizing you could just. make yourself. instead of having to rely on someone else to do the code stuff you don’t know and then lock some features [carrd] or having to work within the limitations of a site that isn’t fully customizable [tumblr posts] or both [rentry]. like i can just do that shit. sure maybe it’ll take me a little more time but not only is it entirely and completely min,e i can also customize it much more extensively than any of the previous options and neocities lets you just download your own site whenever you want. did i mention it’s free and you can get multiple neocities sites for 5 dollars a month that you get to keep even if you unsub later. why are you not making a neocities rn

once you understand how the underlying stuff works, you can edit it so much more than before. i used to use this tumblr page code that looked kinda small and wonky, but it used filterable tags and i could use it for my stels and kintypes and things, so i stuck with it. i didn’t know how to make it look or behave in a better way, so i settled for what i could get

i literally just learned how to be able to make it myself and my entire everything has just been blown wide open. i never have to rely on some other site or some paid tool or an app or whatever in order to display information i can filter / tag ever again because i can DO IT MYSELF

i was gonna use a miraheze wiki in order to make stuff for my ocs, but whenever i went on a hiatus they’d threaten to close it. i also don’t really need all the wiki tools for it, i really just need the pages to display information, i needed links, i needed simple pages, i also really wanted dropdowns which i just learned how to do in html, doesn’t even require js which i used to think i couldn’t use on neocities for some reason.

but what else was i going to do, right. what else was i going to do. can you figure it out. that’s right i’m making a neocities idek what a toyhouse is bro
